Make A List for LU Students' Big Thank You

Published in the Farmville Herald - January 27, 2011

No, not another Christmas gift list but, yes, Farmville, Virginia, there is something like a "Santa" effect associated with this list and what seems like an entire student body of "Santa's elves" to help make your wish list come true. Let's call them students in the art of giving. The subject isn't Christmas but it is a big event. Longwood University's Big Event, in fact.

And the list that Longwood students want you to compile is of the community service projects you'd like them to perform for you on March 26. So it is not too early at all to make the list and send it off to LU's Big Event coordinators.

FARMVILLE - The Big Event is going to get even bigger.

And the Longwood University community service project is going to get even better.
On top of being such an immense success last year that it became the largest campus-wide community service project in Longwood's history.
The student-led project will be held on March 26, 2011 but plans are well underway.
The Big Event, originated at Texas A&M University in 1982, is already circulating job request forms to give students productive community service jobs to perform that day. And sponsors are also being sought to help provide funding and donations of tools are being accepted too.

For the first time in its history, Longwood University is planning to participate in The Big Event. According to a newsletter sent out to student organizations from The Big Event Committee, this event is "a nationwide student run community service based organization." The Big Event consists of one day in which students everywhere can give back to their community by volunteering around town and helping out wherever needed. Junior Megan Harmon said, "It's important that we show the community that we care about them, and this is a great way to express it."
